Tao Lin on “Microfireflies” (Bonus Material)
I recently spoke to Tao Lin for Subject Object Verb about his new novel, Leave Society and its preoccupation with alternative scientific theories. We discussed flat earth, hollow earth, and free energy and how these theories serve as creative inspiration. Listen to that here or wherever you listen to podcasts.
Another phenomenon he writes about in the book is something he calls “microfireflies.” He observes these small mysterious flying objects in the air and speculates on them without the heavy research he gives to other subjects. Instead, he chooses to invent his own theories to support their existence.
Here is a bonus short episode, in which Lin links together several passages on microfireflies from his book, creating a new kind of short story, and discusses his ideas on the subject.
